FAQs

How long does it take for physiotherapy to work?

Our expectation at Melbourne Physio Clinic is that every patient experiences significant improvement after each session. With our highly qualified practitioners, extensive experience, and commitment to providing the best care, our goal is to ensure you feel better with each visit.

How do I get a physiotherapy care plan?

A care plan is part of the Medicare's Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Program. Through a consultation with your doctor, they will organise a care plan for you and it comprises of 5 health professional sessions over a calendar year (resets on January 1).

How do I know if seeing a physiotherapist is right for me?

Physiotherapy is suitable for addressing a wide range of physical conditions and injuries. At Melbourne Physio Clinic, our practitioners work with you to create personalised rehabilitation programs tailored to your individual needs and lifestyle. After your initial session, you'll have a clear understanding of the treatment plan and whether physiotherapy is the right choice for you.

How long is a physiotherapy session?

At Melbourne Physio Clinic, we offer three types of consultations: initial consultation (45mins), review consultation (30mins), extended consultation (60mins).

Is it worth seeing a physiotherapist?

Appreciating that this is written from the biased position of us being Physiotherapists, there is very good value in seeing a Physiotherapist. As a profession, we stand within the medical model with doctors and medical specialists (ie – surgeons, sports physicians, rheumatologists). We are a first-contact primary care profession, meaning that you can see a Physio without needing to see your doctor and obtain a referral. From a highly qualified Physiotherapist, you will obtain a diagnosis on your initial assessment. From there a customised plan to complete recovery can be established.

A Physiotherapist treats all musculoskeletal conditions including all spinal areas and conditions (i.e.- neck, rib cage, low back).

As a general rule, for any injury, aches or pains to your musculoskeletal (not organs) body then you should be going to your Physiotherapist first, as they can diagnose, treat you on the same day for relief and provide you with a rehabilitation plan to help your recovery and then a prevention program to make sure the injury does not return.

Does physio hurt?

No, while treatment at Melbourne Physio Clinic may vary based on your condition and progress, our aim is always to alleviate pain and promote recovery. Some patients may experience discomfort with certain techniques, but your comfort and safety are our top priorities.

How much does a care plan/EPC cover for a session?

At Melbourne Physio Clinic, each session covered under a Medicare EPC plan will be reimbursed $55.10 (as of July 2021) of the consultation fee. This amount can be claimed on the day of your appointment at Melbourne Physio Clinic.

What’s the difference between a physiotherapist and a chiropractor?

Physiotherapy focuses on evidence-based medical learning and aims to promote independence and full recovery. In contrast, chiropractic often promotes dependence on regular adjustments. Additionally, physiotherapy is a degree-based profession within the medical model, while chiropractic is an alternative medicine practice.
